Sync High Rise Aero Bars

Sync High Rise Aero Bars

Sync Ergonomics Project 0.2 Aero bar System

Sync Ergonomics is an Australian Company based out of Melbourne that has brought the ability to achieve a high hand position to anyone with a TT bike or a set of Clip on Aero bars. Project 0.2 is their original offering and the project 0.2 is all about getting a CDA (Co-efficient of drag) of 0.2.(this is considered very aerodynamic) The high hands can be traced back the infamous Floyd Landis Praying mantis position in the Time Trial at the Tour De France 2006.

The idea is that making one larger hole in the air as you move through it, is quicker than making two holes, as you do with the aero bars in a standard parallel to the ground position. Closing off the arm angle also stops a lot of air hitting you square in the chest thus eliminating the wind sock effect when the bars are flat.

Do they work. For me. It is an emphatic yes. I am able to get my elbows a lot closer while still being able to breath normally and the position is actually more comfortable and I am able to hold it pretty much as long as I need to. Time savings wise for me. I went from a standard hand position in Western Sydney 70.3 one year to the high hand position the following. I realise that conditions can’t be identical but they were similar enough for me to be more than happy with my investment. My bike time in the high hand position was 2 minutes quicker than previously, but the most telling factor was that Normalised power was 15 watts lower. Also I was about 6 kg heavier in the new position. So all considerations taken it was quite a large improvement.

VERDICT

They are well made. Well finished and well priced for what they can offer you in terms of time savings. On their website the same set of bars I bought will set you back $359.00 For that you get the high rise alloy aero extensions, the deep groove elbow pads and the 15 degree wedges to tilt your arm pads back to match you new high rise bars. Plus all the attaching bolts that are the torque adapter heads in stainless steal. Sync Project 0.2 Ecosystem

Over all I rate these bars as a 9/10. The only suggestion I would make is that they offer different angles of wedges to suit those not interested in UCI rules so they can get the bars up as high as they want. Would I buy them again? If not these something extremely like them. I honestly would be purchasing these before I would think about a new set of wheels as you will get more out of getting a proper Aerodynamic position. than you will from an expensive new pair of wheels.
