Bike Fitting

Total Performance Centre

Mick’s philosophy on bike fitting is balance on the bike brings both comfort and power. Aerodynamics on the bike trumps your best power figures unless you are climbing hills all day.

So Balance, Comfort, Aerodynamics and power. Get them correct together and you in line to gain free speed. In other words. Go faster for no extra effort. Perfect Example is Greg LeMond in the 1989 Tour De France. This era was literally the very beginning of going down the hole of aerodynamics. At the start of the very last stage Greg LeMond was 50 seconds behind Laurent Fignon, whom on past efforts was equally as strong as Greg in Induvial time trials. On this day however Greg fitted the very first set of Aerodynamic handle bars fitted to a bike at the Tour De France. Previously they had been seen mainly in Triathlons. For Greg To win the Tour de France He would have to beat Laurent by 51 seconds over a distance of 24.5 km. In the world of elite sports such times over such a short distance and relatively flat course would be considered near impossible between 2 nearly identically matched riders. Long story short he beat Laurent by 58 seconds. Many attributing much of that time to the Aerodynamic advantage he had with the fitment of the Set up.

Why focus on bike fit?

A proper bike fit is essential for optimal performance, efficiency, injury prevention and comfort on the bike, and will provide a rider with the most economic means of expending energy. A proper bike fit will also prevent pain that is common in the knee, hip, and lower back, particularly with riders who are trying to adapt their bodies to the bike they already have purchased.

Mick has a solid history in Bike Fitting. Formerly using Retul technology but now choosing to use his eye. “I can see if someone is balanced or not by eye better than relying on a computer to tell me arbitrary numbers”
